If you've been listening to some rock stations lately, you may find that the words "bullsh*t" and "p**ssy" get by the censor. But you're less likely to hear such words over the airwaves on urban/hip-hop stations, which will even bleep out "yay-o." Why? As this Hot104.com article mentions, a likely reason is the difference in available cash (from bigger advertising revenue) to cover possible FCC fines. In the interest in surviving, urban/hip-hop station managers are more likely to hit the bleeper. There also may be some censoring in an effort to counter or discourage negative social trends like drugs and violence. Censorship is always a topic to spur debate; after you read the article, you have the opportunity to submit your own two cents.
