Top » TelecommunicationsOh, Canada!Site: http://www.cnac.caThe Canadian Numbering Administration Consortium (CNAC) was set up in 1998, under the jurisdiction of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to oversee the allocation of local telephone numbers. The Canadian Numbering Administrator (CNA) assigns the three-digit Central Office codes (which some people think of as exchanges), to carriers. All area codes for the North American Numbering Plan area, which includes Canada, the United States, and 18 Caribbean nations (but not Mexico), are assigned by the North American Numbering Plan Administration. In 1999, Science Applications International Corporation of Canada (SAIC Canada) was selected by the CNAC to serve as the neutral CNA for administering telephone numbers in Canada. This five-year project began in January 1999, and SAIC Canada will provide numbering resources to all the Canadian telecommunication carriers. This website provides information on the progress of this transition, as well as information and links for the Canadian telecommunications industry. Thu, 16 Mar 2000 07:40:36 -0800
