Don't ask, tell, or pursue

Site: http://www.sldn.org

In spite of President Clinton's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell, Don't Pursue" policy regarding gays in the military, investigators continue to question recruits and service members about their sexual orientation. Using dubious tactics, they launch investigations without credible evidence and seize diaries, family letters, photos of friends, and other personal possessions. The Service Members Legal Defense Network is comprised of over 200 attorneys who offer legal advice and assistance to such service members. Their website offers current news and press information about the policy and links to homepages of non-serving service members and veterans. An online "Survival Guide" reviews the policy's major provisions, examines trends in its implementation, and familiarizes the reader with practical aspects of the military culture. Topics in the guide include "homosexual acts," "doctor-patient conversations," and "hand-holding and kissing." My favorite is the Queen for a Day clause--which is when a service member convinces a discharge board that the act or acts committed were an unusual event and are not likely to happen again.
