I Am Iron Eyes

Remember Iron Eyes Cody, the famous "Crying Indian" from those 1970s anti-littering ads? He turned a whole generation on to environmental awareness, and while there's some dispute as to whether he was in fact a real Indian or an Italian-American actor playing an Indian, few can dispute his impact on America's consciousness. Cody died in 1999, but his friends at Keep America Beautiful, the organization that brought us the Crying Indian ads, have created this award in his honor. At this page you can read the guidelines for the Iron Eyes Cody Award, which annually honors a volunteer who has done the most to raise litter prevention awareness. The netry process is simple--just write a summary of your nominee's accomplishments and provide some documentation of his or her work.
