Top » Workplace & CareerAn Emerging Style of Career DraftingSite: http://www.businessweek.com/1999/99_31/b3640043.htmImagine a venture captitalist-funded Ivy League draft, or a computer scientist all-star programming session. Are we approaching a time when recruiters and headhunters will follow the lead that professional sports has laid out for talent retrieval? Okay, this may seem a bit far-fetched, but an article in Business Week Online inquires about students being offered the "professional package," that is an early exit and a hefty signing bonus. Stanford University provides the setting for a study on young talent scouting. With dreams of drafting a David Filo or a Jerry Yang (founders of Yahoo!), venture capitalists and recruiters flock to job fairs and engineering contests in search of the next Bill Gates. The ideas, the projects, and the websites are being envisioned and created by a perpetually younger generation. College sophomores being asked, in fact paid handsomely, to drop out. The article presents an interesting twist to the "stay in school" debate. Dave Pasternack Thu, 16 Mar 2000 07:30:56 -0800
