Bob Tedeschi, for the New York Times, reports the percentage of online shoppers who are women has increased to 38 percent from 29 percent over the past year, according to a Commercenet/Nielsen Media Research study. A survey performed by NFO Interactive found travel and apparel to currently be the top categories for women, who indicated that they planned to spend $965 and $793, respectively, in those categories within the next year. Ms. McDaniel, of Women.com, claims 51 percent of their audience have purchased online in the last 6 months, "more than 10 percentage points higher than the average for women online." It is noted that online women shoppers will likely have a catalytic effect on shopping sites for categories such as and house and garden. Noel Munier
