gay, lesbian and teenaged: a tough combination

If you're gay or lesbian, or know people who are, you're undoubtedly well aware that the teenage years are some of the most grueling for those whose sexuality veers from the straight and narrow. Yet some young men and women have faced down their homophobic peers and families and publicly acknowledged their own orientation. Seventeen magazine has found several such out-and-proud teens, and recounts their stories in this thoughtful feature. Interspersed with the sometimes wrenching, sometimes humerous, always inspiring tales are words from psychologist and bits of news. An unusually well-done piece--any teenager would find the minutes spent reading it to be time well spent.
