Steve Brill Sells Out

File this one under "Chutzpah, Incredible." Ad Age reports here that Brill Media Holdings will soon launch its own e-commerce website, Contentville.com. The site will sell "magazines, e-books, traditional books, transcripts, original works, academic treatises, speeches and archives of articles from thousands of magazines." So why is this such a stunning display of ballsiness? Brill Media CEO Steve Brill is a self-appointed media watchdog whose struggling periodical, Brill's Content, prides itself on sniffing out conflicts of interest in the media. So how can a publisher who routinely skewers big media concerns for their greed and hypocrisy continue to do so when his new partners include CBS, NBC, Primedia, and the Ingram Book Group? You've got me by the Brills.
