your medical records online

The issue of confidentiality when it comes to having one's medical history online is as old as the Internet hills. Well aware of the importance of maintaining the privacy of individuals, sites in the healthcare industry have been making their efforts to establish policies that would increase security. Knowingly or not, however, these policies have often been breached, enabling advertisers to get enough info for the purposes of marketing. Currently, security issues are up to the individual sites to protect their users, but this model certainly seems lacking in efficacy. As this article shows, there likely needs to be some external watchdog and universally accepted standards in order to insure the confidentiality of all.
