a heartening Letterman story

It seems like just, er, three weeks ago that doctors "opened Daddy's rib cage" and sewed five new arteries into David Letterman's ticker. While this sort of operation would be enough to lay up mere mortals for months on end, now it seems that Dave is nearly back to his curmudeonly old self and itching to resume his "Late Night" duties. The show's producers may have to bat away the hordes--among them Rosie O'Donnell and Jerry Seinfeld--who have been clamboring to fill Letterman's seat during his recovery.
