Dowries have certainly faded in popularity, but prenuptial agreements have been on the rise for years. Typically the province of gun-shy divorcees on their second (or third) marriages, prenups have long been disdained for the way they force couples to reckon their feelings for each other in terms of cash and assets. But as Jacqueline Ricard explains in this column at RicEdelman.com, prenups don't really deserve their bad rap, and are indeed a valid form of communicating your priorities to your spouse--and also preserving your estate for your children.
