Remembering Poulenc

Site: http://www.classicalmusic.com/uhilites/010199.htm

Like the rest of the world, I spent much of 1999 remembering Francois Poulenc. The French composer, whom Martin Cooper called "a musical clown of the first order" would have been 100 years old last year, had he not died in 1963. Therefore, it is fitting that we as classical music devotees should bookmark this retrospective article on the life and career of this self-taught composer, whose songs are considered among the best of the 20th century. This is a terrific overview to print out and give to those not yet familiar with Poulenc's ouevre. They'll thank you with the smiles that grace their faces when they go on to discover Poulenc's music for the first time. I salute you, Francois Poulenc. Tu nous manques, monsieur.
