The history of croquet

Site: http://www.hickoksports.com/history/croquet.shtml

Short of reading about the famous game played with unfortunate flamingoes in "Alice in Wonderland," not too many people regularly talk about croquet, much less gather 'round the boob tube to watch programs like "Monday Night Croquet" or "Wide Wold of Croquet." However, this centuries-old game is, indeed, an outdoor sport--although, interestingly enough, it was allegedly played indoors by lawn bowlers looking for a way to keep their skills lively when winter snows precluded outdoor exercise. You'll learn more about croquet's beginnings, and a lot more about the unjustly overlooked sport, at this page from Hickok Sports. The entry also discusses Croquet in America and Forms of the Sport, in addition to providing links to other good websites and contact information about North America's major governing bodies. Worth a look.
