Top » Music: Country & Folkhere's the story of the grand ole oprySite: http://www.country.com/hof/history/hof-goo-f.htmlThe Grand Ole Opry looms large in country music history. This venerable institution began as a groundbreaking radio show in the 1920s, and later grew into the renowned Nashville performance venue that we all know and love. For a terrific overview of the GOO's history, follow the link above to this section from the Country.com website. You can read all about the Opry from its formative years to the present, puncuated with some evocative photos and two not-to-be-missed video clips from the 1940s and '50s. The intro states, "recounting the story of the Grand Ole Opry is almost like telling this history of country music itself," and after browsing through the fascinating wares offered here, I couldn't agree more.
