Even though you might not think so after talking to an avid opera lover, the celebrated vocal art form is not everybody's cup of tea. Although I lived and breathed the Suzuki method as a child and still love listening to classical music, I almost inevitably doze off sometime during the third act of just about whatever opera I'm taken to. So if a date at the opera looms in your future and you're just not up to speed on the composer or the work itself--or if you're a budding operaphile who wants to learn more about the genre's great works--you'd do well to visit BMG's Opera Synopses page. There you'll find crib sheets on dozens of great operas, including info about the composer, the characters, the synopsis (of course), and more. True, not every great opera is listed here--La Traviata, for instance--but what's online is very well done. Brava!
