I recently embarked upon the study of the major composers of baroque music, and I don't know how I would have gotten through it without Dr. Estrella's Incredibly Abridged Dictionary of Composers. This is, quite literally, an encyclopedia at your fingertips. Click on a composer's name in one of six categories: medieval, renaissance, baroque, classic, romantic, or modern. You'll find both the "usual suspects" like Beethoven and Brahms, along with less well-known contributors like Gabrieli, Zelenka, and Mussorgsky. Each composer's page contains a caricature drawing, a pithy bio, and a list of works and recommended recordings. The proprietor, a professor at Temple University, openly solicits contributions from visitors. So if you like your classical music reference with a dash of humor added, surf on in to Dr. Estrella's place.
