Museum of Dirt

Site: http://www.planet.com/dirtweb/dirt.html

They say people will collect anything, and this site proves they're right. The Museum of Dirt collects soil from unusual, historic, or notorious places--then posts samples online for the world to see. You can search for dirt in any number of ways--by region, by elevation, by contributor (the site actively solicits contributions from browsers). But if you're taking a quick tour it's probably wise just to start at the top of the list with celebrity dirt. Ever wanted to see what the topsoil of Michael Dukakis' tomato garden looks like? Your prayers have been answered. How about a peek at Dave Barry's lint (accompanied by a cerrified note from the humorist, who hedges that it "may also belong to O.J. Simpson")? And for sheer minerally goodness, you can't beat the dirt from filmmaker John Waters' backyard in Baltimore, MD. It's clear you don't have to collect soil yourself to get something out of this site--but it couldn't hurt.
