beginning racing

Site: http://www.uiowa.edu/~sail/skills/racing_basics/index.shtml

Here it is. A beginners course in sailboat racing from the University of Iowa. It covers everything from the proper attitude, rigging, starting, beating, rounding marks, reaching, and finishing. It isn't a book but a manual. If you were to print it out, with the diagrams, it would come to about 15 pages. Unlike many of the books on this subject, there is very little emphasis on the racing rules; a good thing as they have changed since this cite was written in 1995 by Mark Johnson. It does assume a basic knowledge of sailing (sailing 101?). It is suggested for anyone, juniors or seniors, who would like to learn the basics of a real sport. Lew Hill
