Sometimes, you just need to know. You're thinking about some jazz great from year's past--Hoagy Carmichael, say, or Duke Ellington--and your mind is flooded with curiosity about where this fellow came from and how he got into jazz in the first place. It's during those moments that the biography section of the History of Jazz Music site comes in really handy. You'll find concise little profiles of a dozen or so jazz's biggest stars. Not a tremendous amount of depth here, to be sure, but good info when you've got some basic questions that you've got to have answered.
