A Kidney Cancer Cure?

This year in the United States, around 12,000 people are expected to die of kindney cancer (renal cell carcinoma). Sadly, as with almost all cancers, over 60% of them will be men. Now researchers, led by Dr. Alexander Kugler at the University of Gottingen, Germany, have found a possible vaccine to treat this disease. The vaccine is made by mixing the patients' own cancer cells, with immune cells from donors. The mix is then "zapped" with an electrical current. Results of the trials, to be published in the March Issue of Nature Medicine, have been spectacular. Over 23% of those treated showed complete remission. Their life expectancy had been 3-4 months. Further trials are continuing.
