"Taking Issue"

Site: http://www.spectator.org/ret/ret73099.htm

R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr. observes that although political journalists may seem pre-occupied with the issues, they rarely care to report on them. Often attempting to pigeon-hole "who's hot, who's not," reporters appear they would almost prefer a candidate with "the idiotic effervescence of a pop music disc jockey" than one who wants to expound his/her stance on low-income housing. This is an interesting commentary on the expectations of audiences and journalists alike. Indirectly, Tyrell touches on how confused candidates - ones truly concerned about the issues - need to learn the rules of the game. Noel Munier
