If you've ever wondered what information the federal government has gathered on you or someone else, this website may be of interest to you. Maintained by the good folks at Public Citizen--the organization started by consumer advocate Ralph Nader--the resources here will explain the basic aspects of the Freedom of Information Act and how you can make a petition for government files pertaining to you. Keep in mind that filing a request can be tedious. Furthermore, even if your request is granted, you may still be unable to obtain all of the uncensored documents you were hoping to receive. But a look at this site is a start.
