Top » Music: Classical & OperaThe Infinity of Bach's Cello SuitesSite: http://www.cello.org/Newsletter/Articles/angst.htmTim Finholt has written a loving and exacting piece called "Interpretational Angst and the Bach Cello Suites," about his yearning to "deeply comprehend" Bach's work for the cello. This is some of the most informed and intelligent writing on classical music I have ever read. Finholt discusses the conflict between Scholars and Performers in interpreting Bach's work, as well as the difficulty in trying to recreate Baroque works with instruments that differ greatly from those in use at that time. A great scholarly appreciation and interpretation that should be of interested to anyone who's been entranced by the Cello Suites. About 3000 words, with copious footnotes.
