SEARCH ENGINES: 800 MILLION PAGES & GROWING!

There is NO search engine that indexes more than about 16% of the pages available to the public! I just found this out at this website, wwmetrics.com. "Accessibility and Distribution of Information on the Web" is the title of the research by Dr. Steve Lawrence and Dr. C. Lee Giles. Their research studies remind us of the importance of search engines, as digital research becomes increasingly integrated into the lives of those of us in the Education field. The Education world, as it takes its content online, would be well-advised to seek out this site and begin to apply more specific coding techniques to their pages. The Internet is growing at a huge rate, and yet the search engine coverage of this grand knowledge base is diminishing. Dr. Giles, on his home page, gives the best tip: "Each search engine covers only a tiny fraction of the Web so you should use all of them."
