Yes, we have no tomatoes, yet

Summer is on the way and to my mind, one of the best things about the season is a fresh vine ripened tomato. The Internet Tomato Gang is extending an invitation to gardeners to participate in their tomato trials for 2000. Hundreds of mostly open pollenated varieties are to be tested this year and for a nominal fee (to cover the cost of seeds and shipping only--this is a non-commercial endeavor)you can receive a selection of seeds to grow and observe in your garden. Be prepared to share the results with the tomato gang. This requires a commitment on your part. The administrator is in the process of setting up online reporting to make this a little easier for participants. Very good growing tips are also to be found here, as well as instructions on how to prepare seeds for saving and preservation. Some strange but interesting-looking tomatoes are depicted on this site, all grown by previous participants and there are some whoppers. Have an exotic B.L.T. on the gang this summer.
