Law on What Constitutes a Non-organic Food

Site: http://www.time.com/time/daily/0,2960,40352-101000306,00.html

The F.D.A. has finally come to a conclusion on what constitutes a non-organic food. In general, the definition of a non-organic food is "anything that has been genetically modified, irradiated or grown in the sewage sludge that is sometimes used as fertilizer." This is, however, a slippery definition. To get the "organic" designation, processed foods can be as little as 50 percent organic and still receive a "made with organic ingredients" acknowledgement.
