For those who would like to see members of the sports media try to take a charge from Shaquille O'Neal on a bed of broken glass, here is your site. Athletes Direct features home pages for more than 200 professional athletes in a variety of fields, from stars such as three-time NFL MVP Brett Favre to scrubs like New Jersey Nets' rookie Evan Eschmeyer. The only questions come from fans and they no doubt are weeded out to include only the softest tosses. The design and multimedia features are strong, but most of the content is lighter than cotton candy--tepid daily diaries, fond childhood memories, etc. But some of the content can be controversial (Kevin Garnett's less-than-flattering review of Larry Bird: "Larry didn't play too much D."), prurient (92 photos of tennis pinup Anna Kournikova) or unintentionally hilarious (Albert Belle musing on the economic malaise in baseball: "I believe in a capitalistic society."). There is a lot on this site and at the same time, almost nothing at all.
