Women Photographers of the 1800 to 1900s

Site: http://www.sla.purdue.edu/WAAW/Palmquist/index.htm

When most people think of photographers of the 1800s and into the mid 1900s, we think of a man under a hood holding a crossbar. Yet there were some great female photographers during this time, and this site pays tribute to them. You'll learn about photographers like Emma B. Freeman, who photographed native Americans so reverently, or Julia Shannon whose advertisement in a local paper read "Midwife and Deguerreian." Here you will find links to pages and pages of photographers who shared in the sisterhood of capturing the essense of situations and people in time. This site is sponsored inpart by Purdue University, and touts that it is still undergoing changes and additions. With the sights you will experience here, I feel sure you will bookmark this page to visit again and again.
