E-COMMERCE- NOT ALWAYS A WINNER

E-commerce is the flavor of the month, and we're awash with stories of successful sites. Unfortunately, e-commerce is just business through another medium, and bad decisions will still bring you undone in the online world just as easily as in the offline. Recently, Women.com Networks, an information site, closed down its online women's clothing store, after only three months. "She Gets Dressed" had been their first attempt at carrying inventory and selling direct to customers. Their Senior VP Ellen Pack explained that instead of adding to its revenues, the e-commerce site was detracting from its other revenue sources. "The company determined that its return on investment was higher by selling ads than selling products." Building on core competencies is still good sense, even in the world of e-commerce!
