This site presents the nautical flags used to communicate that ships can use to with other vessels. You'll find definitions of each flag's meaning; for instance, the B flag (solid red) indicates that a vessel is either taking on or offloading explosives. In addition, the semaphore alphabet is presented. I would advice downloading these pages and keeping them handy in case of a nautical emergency.
