'Homie' has a new meaning

Site: http://www.motherjones.com/news_wire/homiesexualz.html

Chuck D once said that hip-hop was the CNN of black culture. If that's so, it's failed to give voice to--let alone acknowledge the existence of-- homosexuality. In the world of hip hop, gays feel as if they were public enemy no 1, and suspect a conspiracy of silence. According to Mother Jones magazine, however, that's about to change. Brothers and Sisters are doing it for themselves. The magazine reports a nationwide attempt to "build a coalition of gay hip-hop artists," and includes interviews with various affiliates. Their aim is to validate homosexual experience and challenge uniform prejudice. Yet it would seem that the biggest threat to such a coalition comes from within the hip-hop community itself. Threat or no threat: It takes more than a nation of millions to hold them back.
