Boxing Old School Style

Boxing hasn't been getting the best of publicity in recent years. However, once upon a time there were only eight weight classes and one titleholder. It is this tradition that is honored at ibhof.com the website for the International Boxing Hall of Fame. Located in Canastota, NY, about an hour north of the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, the boxing hall originated out of the town's desire to honor a hometown hero, Carmen Basilio, a former welterweight and middleweight champion. The Hall grew in size and in 1989 it became the official boxing hall of fame. The website contains an excellent history of boxing--from the controversial heavyweight, Jack Johnson to the Argentinean hero, Alexis Arguello. There is also a year by year listing of champions in every division and, even more impressive, a listing of every boxer who's won a medal in the Olympics. The site doesn't have great graphics or sound clips, but if you want to find out why people love boxing, this is good starting point.
