Hoyt Axton-Roots Musician

Site: http://www.sixcats.com/axton/hoyt2.htm

Roots music means different things to different people. But there's no denying Hoyt Axton's (1938-1999) influence on American's pop music culture. Every group from the Kingston Trio to Steppenwolf has covered his music. Ringo Starr made it to the chart's covering "The No-No Song." Axton's acting--most notably as the father and unfocused inventor in "Gremlins"--was the first introduction many people had to the stocky, bullish Axton. Many never equated that character as the pen behind songs like "Greenback Dollar," "The Pusher," "Snowblind Friend," and "Sweet Misery." But he's as well known among country and folk musicians as among movie-goers. The site has a very thorough discography, biography, and many photos. Though Axton passed away last year after several years of poor health, his catalog will continue to supply many guitar pickers with a wealth of tunes to cover for years to come.
