The word HISTORY suggests sitting in a classroom with a heavy book, but Roughstock’s History of Country Music is a different kind of place. Brief and to the point, this site features a photographic timeline. Click on pictures for more information or download audio files and video clips. Beginning with early Appalachian music in the twenties and thirties, and working it’s way up to mega superstars Garth Brooks and George Strait, this history site touches on all the key players that make country music what it is today. From the Grand Old Opry's traditional sound to cowboy music and western swing, it’s interesting, informative, and fun. This reviewer even downloaded Strait’s classic, ALL MY EX’S LIVE IN TEXAS for kicks. The wav files works well, but all you get is a snippet. You’d have to look elsewhere for the whole song.
