What is Celtic Music

What exactly is Celtic music? It sounds like it should be simple, but over the last 30 years, Celtic music has become an increasingly big tent, under which we find everything from the traditional fiddling of the British Isles to the highly synthesized (and decided untraditional) mysticism of New Age. The confusion comes from the very word Celtic. The Celts spread their culture across Europe before dying out many centuries ago, but their influence remained strong in the western regions of the continent. Migration then carried these influences far and wide, melding with other traditions and creating whole new forms.
