If you are looking for MIDI files for funk and soul artists look no further than Funky Files, a well designed site that has a collection of MIDI from over 100 well-known funk and soul artists. MIDI is a language to describe music that leaves the audio synthesis to your computer or keyboard, so the files are tiny. A song is about 12k, and the site has conveniently grouped all songs by an artist in one zip file for easy downloading. I just downloaded 10 Earth Wind & Fire hits in under a minute--the file was only 340k! Most computer sound cards have a MIDI synthesizer built in, but the files really start to shine when fed to a MIDI keyboard. The site is well organized and pleasant to look at. There is also a companion site "JazzyFiles" with you guessed it, jazz MIDI's.
