What Does Classical Mean, Anyway?

Classical music is easier to recognize than it is to define. Despite the fact that we often use the term definitively, it threatens to be more confusing than enlightening. That's because classical neither refers to a general style of music or a particular period in history. If you are keen to clarify the meaning of classical in order to heighten your understanding of the music, then this is the site for you. It goes to great lengths to show that it is not enough to distinguish classical from contemporary. It reminds us that classical music was contemporary music until recent time.
