In an ongoing battle between the American Indian Tribal Leaders and Califonia Governor Pete Wilson, the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday overturned the ballot measure known as Proposition 5, allowing gambling on Indian Lands to continue. Federal Law requires that Tribes and States negotiate a compact before the operation of a casino. Governor Wilson's basis for the lawsuit is that the Califonia Indian Coalition failed to do so. Some might argue that this is just another instance of bais against gambling. The revenue generated from gambling has vastly improved life for the Califonia Indian, but should anyone be exempt from the law? This controversy is far from over.
