One wine over all others represents joy, celebration, love and momentous occasions. And that wine is Champagne. While excellent sparkling wine is made in many areas of the world, only the French sparkling wine made on the chalk hills north of Paris is entitled to the name Champagne. Historic laws and centuries of tradition in the Champagne region have produced a wine prized by all. The Champagne Wines Information Bureau website details the reasons for Champagne's eminent position, including terroir, the grapes, and methods used. There is also travel and history information. The label is explained, including codes that indicate whether it is a brand label, co-operative, or independent growers wine. How to open and serve the wine is discussed and food matches are suggested. There is a comprehensive glossary and, for light relief, a collection of quotes ranging from Shakespeare to Wayne's World. I'm not keen on their color scheme of yellow on lime green, but I love the amount of expert and factual information (e.g. there are 49 million bubbles in a bottle of Champagne) on this one-stop destination for everything to do with Champagne.
