TAKE IT TO THE (AUSTIN CITY) LIMIT

I am a late-blooming country fan, and one of the factors in my conversion to twang was the sudden appearance on my surf-prone tube of the great PBS country music show Austin City Limits. I stumbled across not a few contemporary country artists appearing live on the show, including Lyle Lovett, Mary Chapin Carpenter, the Mavericks, and John Hiatt. On station KRLU's related site, cleverly named "Austin Cyber Limits," you don't have to get lucky--you can find out who you missed and who is scheduled to appear in 2000 by clicking on the performers and music link on the homepage. The Java-script rollovers on the guitar strings also link you to program schedules, a shopping area, and a decent links and resources area (check out "Roughstock"). The pages are a little slow-loading, but meet my overall demand for detailed information, ease of use, and unique information. And now that I know who's on, I'll be doing less channel hopping and more honkin' and tonkin'.
