Salute!

Generally, when dining at an Italian restaurant, I am sorely disappointed with the wine list. Usually comprised of a chianti, a pinot grigio and a rose–-it is sparse at best. After visiting the Italian Wines Homepage, I am happy to report that this phenomenon has nothing to do with the scarcity of fine wines Italy has to offer. Italy’s wine history stretches back some 4,000 years and has survived war, depression and disease. The Italian climate and soil provide the ability to produce a wider range of wines than any other country in the world. A map of Italy outlines each region, including wine, vineyard and geographical data. Other topics of interest include food and wine pairings featuring Italian cuisine, storing Italian wines and vintage charts. I am especially impressed with the section dedicated to the evaluation of Italian wines, which is one of the most informative I have ever read. Salute!
