Don't you get tired of the continual insinuation that college professors are second-rate slackers? A new Chronicle colloquy discusses a report that highlights the problems of aging professors (technological awkwardness, health), who now comprise one third of the profession. But the report passes over their experience, skill and wisdom. It also bemoans the lack of younger tenured or tenurable professors, but fails to consider the effect of current hiring practices.
