THE BIRD REMEMBERED

Mark "The Bird" Fidrych was baseball's version of a one-hit wonder. He captivated the baseball world with his antics in 1976. Between talking to the baseball, manicuring the pitcher's mound, and meditations, Fidrych went 19-9 to win the American League Rookie of the Year award. The next year he went only 6-4 and encountered arm trouble. By 1980 he was out of baseball. A breath of fresh air for the stodgy old National Pastime, Fidrych is remembered here with a series of audio clips and live action video. There are also links to other Fidrych sites on the Web. When last heard from, Fidrych was an auto mechanic in his native Massachusetts. There's not a lot of content at this site, but it's sure to bring a smile to the face of any baseball fan over the age of 30.
