Top » Spirituality & ReligionMEAT IS MURDER?Site: http://www.ivu.org/religion/index.htmlMost of us probably know that certain religions have strong vegetarian components: Hinduism and Buddhism, for example. Fewer know about the vegetarian theological streams within Christianity or Judaism, and even to some degree in Islam. Then there is Jainism and its almost heroic efforts to avoid consuming fellow creatures (to the extent of wearing masks and brushing one's path with a broom, to keep from inhaling or stepping on insects). The Religion and Vegetarianism page on the International Vegetarian Union's website is an excellent source for learning about vegetarian leanings in all these religions. It links you to all sorts of other sites: vegetarian organizations, essays, book reviews, newsgroup posts, all discussing religious thought about vegetarianism. One Islamic site includes a few vegetarian recipes served during Ramadan (and for fun there's the non-religious list of celebrity vegetarians like David Duchovny, Ashley Judd and so on). Even if you're not vegetarian yourself, this is an excellent resource for understanding the religious reasoning that supports many people's stands on the issue.
