Top » Food & Drink: WineHI HO, VIOGNIER, AND AWAY!Site: http://www.rhonerangers.comAs a kid I wanted to be the Lone Ranger. Now I enjoy being a Rhone Ranger--a fan of U.S. wines made from grape varieties from France's Rhone Valley. These include Syrah and the newly fashionable Viognier. Rhone Rangers was formed by a group of American winemakers. Their website details activities of this non-profit educational organization that promotes wines made from American-grown Rhone grape varieties. If you too like these wines, you are encouraged to join them, but be warned, it's not simply a matter of sending off a check. To gain membership advantages, which include discounts at tastings, newsletters, and a T-shirt, you must pass an entrance test. If you can answer questions such as "How many varieties are allowed in Chateauneuf- du-Pape?" you are ideally qualified. If you are not sure, then a study of the on-site primer will provide the answer, as well as a lot of other information. Sat, 29 Apr 2000 09:28:05 -0700 Submitted by: Peter May
