WINNING WINES

Since 1969 the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) has been the world's largest and most important wine competition. IWSC is an independent organization with a permanent staff, dedicated tasting rooms, and insulated cellars in its headquarters. Winemakers are keen to place a winner's IWSC seal on their bottle. But to win, wines must prove their quality and excellence by passing both chemical analysis and tastings by professionals. Only one Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal is awarded in each category. IWSC's new website lets you check the winners. It is split into three main areas--Wines, Fortified/Liqueur Wines, and Spirits & Specialties. A separate selection shows special Trophy winners. Currently listing only winners from the 1999 competition, this site will grow into a valuable resource. I'd prefer it if they had included the judges' comments as well, but it is great to be able to check a wine's rating nevertheless.
