DISSECTING BEETHOVEN'S FIDELIO

Site: http://www.classiccd.co.uk/composers/features/beethoven/fidelio.

It's amazing to think that one of the world's greatest composers only wrote one opera. The fact that he rewrote it three times might explain why. In a commentary, writer Michael Oliver seems to think that Beethoven not only shouldn't have written any other operas, but he probably shouldn't have written Fidelio, either. Oliver doesn't have much to say about the music itself, but believes the plot destroyed this piece. I encourage you to read for yourself what Oliver has to say regarding Beethoven's Fidelio. You might just find yourself agreeing.
