EBBETS FIELD: FROM GARBAGE DUMP TO MECCA

Site: http://www.ballparks.com/baseball/national/ebbets.htm

I was standing around talking to parents of the players on my Little League team about our favorite teams when we were little. "The Dodgers," one father said, "when they played in Brooklyn." Ebbets Field is where it happened, and this page includes an aerial view, architect listings, a discussion of the dimensions of the field (including why confusion persists as to what they actually were), and arcane trivia. How many turnstiles did Ebbets Field have? Where was the gap in the metal gate that kids could watch the game through? Since it was first built on the site of the Pigtown garbage dump, Ebbets Field has held its own place in baseball lore, and this site has the basics that the uninitiated need to know, along with some obscure information for those who followed the Dodgers "when they played in Brooklyn."
