COULTHARD SURVIVES PLANE CRASH

David Coulthard, who won the last F1 Grand Prix in Silverstone, miraculously escaped from a plane crash on Tuesday in Lyon, France. Coulthard survived, along with his fiance Heidi Wichlinski and his personal trainer Andy Matthews, after the plane developed engine problems en route from Farnborough to Nice. On Thursday, he spoke to the press and told them how he had tried in vain to help the two pilots who died. He admitted there was nothing he could do to help them and expressed his "heartfelt sympathies" for the families of the pilots. His McLaren team said in a statement that Coulthard, currently second in the world championship behind Germany's Michael Schumacher, would race on Sunday in Barcelona and that he is in very good shape, mentally and medically.
