SWIMMING: A GREAT WAY TO GET FIT

With summer here, there is no better way of getting (or staying) fit than to jump into your nearest pool, ocean, or lake and take a swim. Statistics show that swimming can give you just as good a workout for your heart as aerobics and power walking. Additionally, swimming is great for people who are on the heavier side and need to start off slow, rather than jumping right into high-impact exercise. A great website to check out is The American Council on Exercise, which posts many informative articles on fitness and nutrition, including "Get into the Swim of Things," which outlines all the great benefits of swimming, and how you can maximize your workout. Also in their library are a multitude of articles ranging from cardiovascular exercises and weight management, to various exercises for those afflicted with different ailments/diseases. No matter what your condition, there are ways to stay fit...both mentally and physically!
